Youth Sport award boost for Radclyffe staff and pupils

Date published: 27 September 2018

A huge and growing range of sporting opportunities, coupled with an involvement in competitive games for many students, has earned the Radclyffe School the highest accolade from the Youth Sport Trust.

The School Games Platinum Award recognises the school’s commitment to enabling as many young people as possible to take part in sport.

Among the activities that students have enjoyed have been climbing, kayaking, tennis, trampolining, mountain biking, karate, archery, cricket and netball.

Already holders of the Gold Award, the Chadderton school gained the higher prize due to efforts to develop students’ leadership talents.

Older students coach their younger peers, and students in all years get involved throughout the year in leading sports activity for primary school pupils.

The school is an enthusiastic supporter of competitive sports, both across Oldham and in wider inter-school events.

School Sports Co-ordinator Marc Finc said: “The chance to represent the school and then the borough of Oldham is a fantastic experience for our young people.

"We are proud of all their achievements, both when they win and when they just enjoy taking part.

"Students of all abilities are encouraged to get involved, through intra-school tournaments and lots of choice of lunchtime and after school clubs for students to enjoy.

"Working with Oldham Schools Sport, the Radclyffe School is delighted to host events ensuring young people with disabilities can take a full part in sport."

The school boasts outstanding facilities at its Hunt Lane site, with indoor and outdoor athletics alongside two sports halls and 3G artificial pitch.

Later this year the school will add to these resources with an indoor climbing wall.
