MARIE PRICE
GLOBE-TROTTING nurse Marie Price is a real super trooper after spending 45 years treating patients in war zones and at home.
The former Army nurse from High Crompton was stationed in Cyprus, the Falklands, and Northern Ireland during 22 years in the military and reached the rank of acting warrant officer before leaving to care for terminally ill patients in a hospice in Cumbria.
Now working with the elderly at Chadderton Total Care, she is set to retire but still plans to help her church, Trinity Methodist in Royton, with pastoral visits.
JESSICA ASHFORD
LITTLE Jessica Ashford proved to be a big hero when she came to the aid of her mother Susan Ashford who had fallen down a flight of stairs at home and lost all feeling from the waist down.
Quick-thinking Jessica, who was only three at the time, climbed onto a chair to search for a phone in her mum's handbag and called her grandmother, who in turn called paramedics. Jessica, from Chadderton, then let emergency crews in when they arrived.
CHADDERTON WELLBEING CENTRE
LIFE-SAVING actions from staff at Chadderton Wellbeing Centre saw tragedy averted when Oliver Smethurst (then four) was critically injured after being struck by a car outside the centre
Quick-thinking library and centre staff leapt into action, treating Oliver with first aid and keeping the family calm until paramedics arrived.
Kind-hearted staff continued their care after his recovery, giving Oliver one-to-one swimming lessons to help his rehabilitation.
