Pride in Oldham Nominee Mr Nareej Sharma
A MAN who jokingly describes the intricacies of his job as “all the plumbing” has earned a Pride in Oldham nomination from one of his patients.
Mr Neeraj Sharma is a consultant urologist at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
He heads a team who care for around 3,500 patients each year who have bladder, prostate and kidney problems, ranging from cancers to stones.
Mr Sharma was nominated by Peter Guilfoyle, who said: “He is the most caring surgeon I have ever met. He always makes time to reassure his patients.”
A surprised Mr Sharma said on learning of his nomination: “I just do my job.
“I’m passionate about Oldham, and I absolutely love working here. The people are very warm and good at heart.
“I’m humbled to be nominated for an award like this, but it’s not really what I’m about.”
Mr Sharma (46) has been in Oldham for 12 years.
He has two children aged 10 and 14, and is married to Reena, a doctor in metabolic medicine at Booth Hall Children’s Hospital, Manchester.
