Pam playing a blinder for club

Date published: 11 August 2008

WHEN it comes to taking care of things at Uppermill Football Club, Pam Preston is your woman.

And her commitment and dedication to the club has been rewarded with a Pride in Oldham Award nomination.

Pam, from Delph, was a member of the fundraising committee 25 years ago when her husband, Bernard, played for the club, and she got involved again two years ago when the club expanded.

She juggles her club responsibilities with her full-time job as engineering administrator at the First Bus garage in Wallshaw Street, Mumps.

The 53-year-old mother-of-one takes care of all the club’s administration duties such as correspondence, booking venues for events and keeping track of available courses and training programmes for team members.

She said: “It is very time consuming but everyone at the club is so lovely that it makes it all worthwhile.

“I really enjoy my role and can see myself sticking around for many years to come to see future developments taking place at the club. Everyone is really committed to the club and the social aspect is brilliant.

“It is wonderful to be nominated for a Pride in Oldham Award and I thoroughly appreciate it.”

Simon Tait, youth development officer at the club, nominated Pam. He said: “Pam is totally dedicated and enthusiastic and spends many hours in her role as secretary of the club.”
