A BUDDING artist who has had a one-man exhibition despite being only 10 years old has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.

Greenfield boy Louie Daley has tuberous sclerosis, which causes tumours and epileptic fits, as well as dyspraxia which affects his movements.

But a series of after-school art classes have boosted his confidence and improved his fine movements.

And his teacher, Julie Taylor, was so pleased with his progress that she organised a one-night-only show of his artwork at the White Hart, Lydgate, in July.

The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar, was so impressed with what Julie told him about Louie that he agreed to open the exhibition and see for himself.

The art courses have boosted the self-esteem of Louie, who is in a mainstream school, St Anne’s at Lydgate, as well as encouraging his creativity and imagination.

His mother, Nicola Edwards, who is also an Oldham teacher said of his nomination: “He’ll be absolutely delighted. This is such a shock but I am so pleased.

“Louie is still enjoying his painting and we have been on holiday in Italy where he was painting. He just loves his art work.”
