Lux like Elliot’s on right wavelength

SCHOOLBOY Elliot Lux continues to make a splash as one of the country’s top young water-skiers.

The 16-year-old from Denshaw recently finished runner-up in the junior wakeboarding class at the national water-skiing championships at Quayside, Surrey.

It was an unexpected success as Elliot, a sixth-form student at Hulme Grammar School, was competing in the finals for the first time and was not expected to feature in the honours.

Indeed, it was an achievement to reach the final as Elliot had to battle through two rounds to qualify.

And as a result of his triumph, Elliot, who trains at Whitworth Water-ski Centre, has won a place in the Great Britain squad for next year’s European Championships.

But he has also been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.

Wakeboarding involves aerial tricks, tumbles and somersaults and Elliot has also won a number of other competitions in what has been a memorable year.

It is an expensive sport, with the cost of training, entering and travelling to competitions so far running at £10,000.

Without the help of three sponsors it would be impossible for Elliot to compete at the highest level. But with 2009 promising to be another hectic year, Elliott is still looking for further financial backing.

If anyone would like to sponsor Elliot, contact his father, Perry, on 07860 288415
