IT is top marks for one teacher whose hard work has led to him nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.

Adam Laskey, head at St Thomas’s Primary School, Moorside, received the nomination for transforming the school over the past five years.

Sandra Gibson, senior midday supervisor, said Mr Laskey, who took over as head in 2003, should be nominated for helping to turn the school around.

She said his guidance and leadership had resulted in a total change.

Mrs Gibson explained: “I’ve worked here for seven years and the school has completely changed. It now has a community centre, new windows, new computers, and it is all down to Mr Laskey.

“Children have got respect for their school and it now represents the future of Sholver.”

Mr Laskey (38), from Royton, was part of the school team nominated for a Pride in Oldham award in 2003 for a gardening project.

But the father-of-two said he was surprised to be singled out for a 2008 award as the changes made over the years were down to team work.

He said: “I’m really surprised to be nominated, because as I see it, it’s a case me helping others to create that environment.

“We’ve worked really hard over the past five years to make it right.

“And our last Ofsted inspection said we are now a good school with outstanding features.

“Without the dedication of staff, parents, governors and pupils, I wouldn’t be where I am now. It is a shared vision.”
