A SPORTS development officer for Oldham is a bit of a champion himself, according to a deputy head teacher.
Mark Holmes has scored a big hit at Our Lady’s RC Primary School, Moorside, leading to him being nominated him for a Pride in Oldham award by deputy head Christopher Hanson.
Mr Hanson said: “All the children coached by Mark have gained a great deal of confidence. I feel that is due to his firm yet fair approach along with his excellent knowledge of the games he has taught.
“He also delivered a course on basketball with matches against other schools."
“This has allowed children to develop their skills and understanding of a sport rarely taught in primary schools."
In his nomination Mr Hanson said: “His excellent relationships with children, staff and parents and the structured sessions result in all children making progress. He also gives time after school for matches.”
Mark said: “I ampleased I have been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.
“I provide a service for eight schools in the Sholver and Derker areas.”
“We also do training some evenings at the Pearly Bank kick-about pitch at Sholver and at Stoneleigh Park.”
“I am glad that people think that what we do helps the children and am glad that it seems to make a good contribution.”
“Personally I love sport and I like encouraging children to develop their sporting skills.”
