MOTHER-of-two Debbie Mortin decided to put her nurturing skills to good use and look after children in need.

And now the 50-yearold’s dedication to fostering has earned her a nomination for the Pride in Oldham Awards.

Debbie has fostered 14 children aged from new born to five years during her 12 years of service.

She said: “I love seeing the children change from frightened little things when they arrive into confident youngsters when they leave.”

“It can be sad when they have to leave me but I have always known it’s part of the job and you do get warning. ”

“I never judge anyone and the aim of fostering is to provide care for these children until their parents are ready to have them back or they go on to a new adoptive family”

“I have always been a very sociable person so I love talking to the families and the social workers and finding out as much as I can about the children’s’ backgrounds.”

“It is really nice to be nominated for this award because I am just going about my daily routine and I don’t think I amdoing anything special. It’s lovely to be recognised.”

Janette Jones, a friend of Debbie, who nominated her for the award, said: “Debbie should get an award for the patience and care she has for the babies and children she fosters. She does an excellent job.”
