FROM cookery to film-making and day trips to craft sessions. there’s nothing the Inter-generational Group won’t try.

The Fitton Hill Fun For All Ages Club was set up in 2006 by Villages Housing Association and Oldham Integrated Youth Service in a bid to bring old and young together.

And the project worked so well that the group has now been nominated for a Pride in Oldham Award.

The age of group members ranges from 13 to 91 and includes youngsters from the New Deal for Communities mobile unit and pensioners who are tenants with Villages Housing. Together, participants have embarked on a number of activities designed to break down barriers and eradicate negative stereotypes.

Day trips to places such as Wakefield Coal Mine, Chester Roman Museum and Liverpool Maritime Museum have strengthened their bond.

The youngsters and the pensioners also taught each other dance skills relevant to their generation in a skills swop shop.

Former mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar, invited group members to his parlour to present them with certificates to mark their achievements.

Group member Zena Yarwood (17), who has been involved with the group since it started, said: “It feels really good to be nominated and I am really proud of all the members as we are doing our bit for the community as well as having lots of fun.”

Youth worker Sarah Greaves, who nominated the group, said: “I believe that the Inter-generational Project really does represent Pride in Oldham and I am really proud of everyone involved.

“Everyone involved deserves recognition for all their hard work within the community.”
