LUKE Procter’s progress from promising schoolboy cricketer to professional status with Lancashire has been widely predicted in local circles.
Ever since Luke, now 21, burst on the Central Lancashire League scene as a teenage all-rounder for Oldham CC, experienced cricket-watchers have been predicting a bright future for the youngster born and bred in the town.
After a couple of successful seasons at the Pollards, Luke (pictured) moved to Royton and, after making his mark as an amateur, he was offered professional terms with the club.
His performances with bat and ball have continued to improve and, in the 2009 season, he scored 1,162 runs at an average of 55.33 and took 79 wickets at 20.10.
Lancashire have also been aware of his progress and, after being picked for the county’s academy and earning a scholarship contract, Luke has been awarded a professional contract for next season.
Whenever his county commitments allow, he will continue to turn out for Royton, who have appointed him first-team captain for 2010.
