A GREEN-FINGERED resident has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award for transforming a Chadderton street.
Colin Wright (70), from Wakefield Street, has been busy creating beautiful floral hanging baskets for his neighbours as well as himself.
Not only that, but he also waters and feeds them, ensuring the street looks a treat for residents and visitors alike.
Lynne Banham was among residents in Wakefield Street who nominated Mr Wright.
She said: “I moved on to this street two years ago and have never met a neighbour as passionate for making a street as beautiful as Colin does.
“He has been doing it for years, according to other neighbours.
“I do know he received a letter from Oldham Council for the effort and, most importantly, pride he puts into making a small street in Chadderton so picturesque.”
Mr Wright, who has lived on the street for 46 years, said that he and his wife Lucy (71) make up the hanging baskets in early spring before distributing them when they have started to flourish.
He said: “I’m grateful for the nomination which has come as a shock. It’s very nice that people think that way. I’ve not done any spectacular deeds — I just do it because I’ve lived here for a good few years and to help the older people.”
