A COMMUNITY stalwart helping residents across Limeside, Failsworth and Hollinwood has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.

Sarah Furbey (37) has lived on the Limeside Estate for eight years.

The busy mum-of-three (pictured left) works as a community development worker for Contour Housing, a role she took up in March.

But she also helps run a variety of other groups and organisations making life a little easier for grateful residents across the borough.

Sarah organises the annual Hollinwood Together Festival, and runs the Parents For Play group, which has just ended a busy summer season of fun activities. She also created and manages the Oldham branch of Freecycle, an online recycling group with over 5,000 Oldham residents swapping a range of unwanted goods.

Not only that, she is secretary of the Friends of Limeside Park, is a member of Failsworth and Hollinwood District Partnership, and is the Children’s Hub representative for the borough.

Her online pal Diane Drinkwater, from Chadderton, nominated her for all the hard work she does.

She said: “She is an outstanding person who is constantly busy helping people through all the different work she does.

“It’s really nice to be nominated, I’m quite surprised. I’m sure there are much more busy people in Oldham than me.

“I love what I do, and I enjoy helping the Limeside community.

“We have a reputation that we are forever fighting against, but I’ve lived here for eight years, it’s really nice, there is no trouble and there is a good sense of community.”
