THE manager of a dedicated group of care workers has nominated his team for a Pride in Oldham Award.
Staff at Domus Healthcare, which is based at Windsor Works near Mumps, have been helping vulnerable members of the community since May, 2009.
Clients, who are often referred to Domus from the council or the Primary Care Trust, range from the elderly to those with mental health issues to sufferers of degenerative diseases.
The team is currently working to introduce “Your Life, Your Care, Your Way”, a system which will give people more power over their own care.
Carers are also developing packs for dementia sufferers which advise families on how to create life story books for their relatives and how to work with challenging behaviour.
During the severe winter weather this year, staff went the extra mile to make sure clients had everything they needed.
The team was nominated by Domus Healthcare’s group operations manager, Darren Guy.
He said: “My nomination is for the entire team which has coped with great change and maintained continuous service throughout. They are a truly dedicated team, the likes of which I have never come across in 15 years of managing healthcare services. The sheer dedication shown by staff to empowering clients to live better, more fulfilled lives is breathtaking.
“I firmly believe that the staff instil pride in Oldham and I would love to see them recognised as such.”
