Staff of the High Risk Foot team and the podiatry department at the Integrated Care Centre.
A SPECIALIST medical team whose early diagnosis helped one diabetic get the right treatment have been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.
Staff and receptionists from the podiatry department and the High Risk Foot Team at the Integrated Care Centre have been put forward for the prestigious award by grateful wife Jennifer Barker.
Mrs Barker, from Broadway, said staff members were treating her diabetic husband Stewart (68) for a corn when they spotted signs that he needed specialist treatment for his other leg.
Mrs Barker said their instant diagnosis, which resulted in him spending the night at the Royal Oldham Hospital for medical treatment, helped prevent more serious problems developing. She said: “They were the ones who spotted something was going on and have been excellent with him throughout.
“He is now going to clinic once a week for check-ups and they really care for him and keep an eye out for him.
“I’ve learned so much from them and their specialist knowledge but as well as being really professional, they are very caring and always good to everyone.
“They are a credit to the NHS and we should be proud to have them in our borough.”
Debra Drury is a clinical specialist podiatrist for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, which runs some community services across Oldham.
She said: “We are delighted to receive the award nomination for what we view as our daily job and what we are trained to do for all our patients.
“The high-risk foot team helps patients with an ulcerated foot to manage their condition by providing advice on foot protection, treatment for wounds and pressure relief.
“We cover the whole borough of Oldham and are an integral part of the local podiatry service.”
