A MATRON who received a prestigious honour from an Olympic champion earlier this year could land another title after being nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.

Caring Kay Miller (39), who works at the Royal Oldham Hospital, was crowned Pennine Acute Trust’s Nurse of the Year and received her award by former British athlete Sally Gunnell.

The critical-care matron, from Royton, was recently praised for her outstanding commitment and dedication to her team and patients.

She said after hearing the news: “This is my job and I love it. For someone out there to recognise the work I do is amazing and overwhelming.

“I am over the moon with the nomination for a Pride in Oldham and this would not be possible without the team I work with and the great support by the management.”

A delighted Kay started as a nurse in Oldham in 1990 and has been a big part in the merger of the new critical-care teams from Rochdale Infirmary and The Royal Oldham Hospital, as part of the Healthy Futures’ reconfiguration of services.

Working on the frontline for Kay and her team means saving lives every day, caring for those in intensive care and on life support, and making the final hours of terminally-ill patients as comfortable as possible.
