A CHADDERTON woman who has helped put smiles on the faces of hundreds of children has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.

Lizz Cassin (35) supports youngsters with disabilities at Werneth’s Woodfield Centre, providing respite for them and their parents or carers for a few precious hours.

Described as a woman who goes “above and beyond” her call of duty, Lizz is also a learning mentor at Clarksfield Primary School.

On hearing the news of her nomination, she was left stunned, saying: “It was a nice shock, but I’m just doing my job.

“I do love my job and to see the self-esteem and confidence grow in the youngsters.”

Among her many roles at the school, the qualified nursery nurse oversees the School Council - a group of students elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve the school.

Graham Robishaw (46), from Clarksfield, nominated Lizz on behalf of a group of parents that felt she deserved recognition for being helpful and supportive.

He said: “She has been such a good support for me and my son Kieran (11) as well as other children at the school.

“She’s given up her own time during the school holidays to take children on day trips.

“She also took myself and my son to hospital and back when we had an appointment. Lots of parents feel that she should get recognition for what she does.

“Nothing is too much trouble for her and she goes above and beyond what she is asked to do.”
