Jeremy Broadbent, chairman of One Future Olympic legacy project, has been nominated for a Pride of Oldham award in the business category.

Greenfield man Mr Broadbent, who is chief executive officer of the Johnson Group, a civil engineering, construction and property business based in Delph, is also a member of the Oldham Business Leadership Group.

He is a keen backer of all things Oldham and contributes to a number of initiatives including Delph Party in the Park and the One Oldham Business Awards.

By chairing the One Future Olympic legacy project with such enthusiasm, determination and drive, he has brought together public and private-sector partners to deliver a programme which not only promotes Oldham but aims to provide a legacy which builds a better future for Oldham’s citizens.

Making the nomination, Oldham Council’s principal economic and business liaison officer June Smith lists the Olympic project’s successes to date including:

::Attracting the Halford’s Pro-Cycle Tour series to Oldham in order to raise the profile of the borough and create economic benefit.

::Sponsoring school children in the regional school games.

::Funding 100 young people as a reward to attend the Paul Scholes testimonial match at Oldham Trafford.

::Arranging an inspirational visit to Oldham by London Organising Committee Olympic Games member Jonathan Edwards, a triple jump Olympic gold medallist and world record holder, to meet Radclyffe School and New Bridge School athletes and arts performers.

June Smith added: “Jeremy believes that a healthier community is more motivated and able to access educational and employment opportunities.

“His workforce are sampling a Wellness Key which is linked to diet and exercise and he is driving One Future partners to be the first local authority area with 100 per cent schools engagement in the London 2012 Get Set programme. “

Andy Worthington, from the North-West Olympic Committee, describes the Oldham One Future project as “one of the most exciting projects I’ve encountered in my work on 2012.”

Mr Broadbent said: “I am totally surprised by this recognition. This nomination is a reflection on the whole of the Johnson Group business and not just myself.

“I regard our contribution to Oldham as part of our corporate social responsibility and want to praise the staff at Johnson and recognise their dedication for allowing me the time to undertake these projects.”
