TWO inspirational tutors at University Campus Oldham have scooped a Pride In Oldham award nomination.
Academic skills tutors Christine Cattermole and Dr Elizabeth Caldwell have both put time and energy into helping students succeed. The pair have run one-to-one sessions with students as well as workshops to help them develop skills vital to success — such as writing, referencing and critique skills.
Sixth-form leavers, post-graduates, students with additional learning needs and those for whom English is not their first language have all benefited from their support. Thrilled Christine said: “It can be challenging but it makes our roles really interesting.
“It’s so enjoyable seeing all the students you have helped graduate and succeed, it’s a great feeling to be part of that. I’m really surprised to be nominated but really chuffed. We do work hard and it’s nice to be recognised.”
As well as going into lectures to help pupils, the pair have also set up a social network for students to swap study tips. They have also put together an informative video to explain the work they do and attract more students to the service they offer.
Head of UCO, Debbie Bridge, who nominated Christine and Elizabeth, said: “They both constantly update their own skills and knowledge in order to make sure that Oldham students benefit from the latest developments.
“They offer a fantastic service and are a great asset to the University Campus and to Oldham and their support is much appreciated by the students.”
