A PAIR of community health teams providing life-improving care to patients in their own homes have been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.

Andrea Morris, clinical network manager, nominated both the Community Stroke Team and Team BLF (which stands for British Lung Foundation) for their positive outlook and hard work.

She said: “They are both multi-disciplinary, professional groups of individuals with a ‘can do’ attitude and forward- thinking approach who will go that extra mile to support the often vulnerable patients and their families who are under their care.”

Sally Moore, from the Community Stroke Team, said the group of 10 staff was only formed 18 months ago but works exceptionally well together and works closely with the Stroke Association.

She said: “Our physiotherapist, occupational therapist, psychologist, specialist stroke nurse, dietician, speech therapist and therapy assistants help people with often complex care needs to get back on their feet.

“It’s very rewarding to help people who have suffered a stroke and are really struggling to get back into work.

“We’re very excited and pleased to have been nominated for the award.”

Lynn Daniel, respiratory specialist nurse and team leader at Team BLF, said: “It’s a lovely thing to be nominated and the team will be really made up.

“We are the first Team BLF in the UK and have two respiratory specialist nurses, one respiratory specialist physiotherapist and an assistant practitioner, all doing home visits and helping people with lung disease and lung conditions.

“Its a very rewarding job when you can help someone and give support to their family and carers.”
