Emily’s A* in the making

SADDLEWORTH School head teacher Matthew Milburn has nominated Oldham student Emily Bamforth for a Pride in Oldham award.
Emily (16), of Goodwood Drive, Derker, gained six A* and five A grades in her GCSEs this summer and is now studying A-levels at college.
Matthew Milburn, head of Saddleworth School, said: “Emily achieved outstanding results by making exceptional levels of progress.”
Emily now studies A-level English literature, maths, modern history and law at Greenhead College in Huddersfield.
She said: “I’m honoured to be put forward for a Pride in Oldham award. I started at Saddleworth School later than most because I previously lived on the Isle of Man.
“I often used to stay behind to work, so it’s nice to have that recognised.
“I’d love to study law at Cambridge University. I think law is a really interesting subject and would make a good career.”
Although much of her time is taken up with study, Emily enjoys watching films in her spare time and is also interested in the media.
Her dad, Tony Bamforth (70), a former professional keyboard player who now works for a Mossley electronic alarms business, said: “I’m exceptionally proud of Emily. I know how hard she has worked to get those GCSE results.
“She’s very determined with a good heart.”
