Sixth form is ‘second home’

BEV Beaumont has played a key role in the development of Oldham Sixth Form College.
She is its longest-serving member of staff, starting as a finance officer on January 6, 1992 — eight months before the building opened.
Now director of finance and business development, she has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham Award for her work. This includes being a member of the team which opened the college’s Regional Science Centre in 2011.
Bev (56), who lives in Chadderton, describes the college as her second home. It has also been a family affair with both her children studying there.
Hannah (24) went to Sheffield University and is now a paramedic while 26-year-old Kristopher did an apprenticeship with Scottish Power before becoming an overhead linesman.
Bev said: “The college has played an important part in my life in many ways, both in my personal and my professional life. It has given me a lot of opportunities and is somewhere I have always loved working.”
Bev, who is also a governor at The Radclyffe School, Chadderton, was nominated by the college’s senior leadership team.
She added: “I am honoured.”
