Caring Kim so committed

A SOCIAL worker has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Kim Doolan helps adults with disabilities and other needs to stay independent and remain in their own homes instead of moving into hostels.

The 47-year-old also provides opportunities for people to socialise on a regular basis, bringing them together at the Link Centre and Whitney Court to enjoy film nights, functions and many other fun events. She has over 20 years experience of working with adults who have a variety of needs.

Kim continues to work even after clocking off, going the extra mile to help transform the lives of vulnerable adults in Oldham.

Workload

As well as her huge workload, Kim also has a busy family life, with a husband and two children aged 12 and 10.

And although she doesn’t drive, Kim travels across Manchester to help anyone in need.

Lynn Corless, Suzanne Garlick and David Melia nominated Kim, after their professional and personal experiences with her affected them greatly.

Lynn said: “She’s the most reliable person I’ve ever known. If she says she’ll do it, she’ll go to the ends of the earth to make it happen.

“She makes sure people who would usually be alone are staying active. She never stops going because she cares so much.”

Modest Kim said: “I really appreciate this nomination, it’s so nice.

“But I wouldn’t be able to do all of this without everyone who volunteers.”
