Judith can’t stop charity fundraising

A CHAMPION fundraiser who has collected thousands of pounds for charity in almost a decade has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.

Judith Miller (57), from Royton, has spent the past 10 years walking, baking, donning fancy dress and selling goods to the public — all in the name of charity.

Nominated by her brother-in-law Clive Jackson, he calculated that Judith has raised thousands for a range of charities over the years.

He said: “Judith has an insatiable appetite for raising money for charity.

“There hasn’t been a month gone by where she hasn’t been involved in fundraising for one charity or another all with no reward or recognition whatsoever.”

Judith, who works at Miller’s Florist in Huddersfield Road, was a regular at the former Saddleworth Beer Walks.

Her first fundraiser helped to raise £1,216 for the Stroke Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital in 2004 after her father suffered a stroke.

She also raised £3,387 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association as part of a tribute fund in memory of her late aunt who suffered from the condition.

She has since helped a wide variety of charities including the Alzheimer Society, the British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Nurses and Breast Cancer Awareness.

At her place of work, Judith helps to raise funds and awareness for the charity of the month with donation boxes on the counter.

A shocked Judith said: “It’s wonderful to be nominated, I’m filling up. I’m sure there are other people who have done more than me.

“Fundraising is a passion of mine because I think about friends and family who have suffered from various diseases.

“This is a way of helping others who might be going through the same thing.”
