Nurses a tonic for sick

A TEAM of dedicated nurses who work around the clock to give patients the best possible care have been nominated for a Pride in Oldham Award.
The Royton and Crompton District Nurses, based at Royton Health and Wellbeing Centre, were nominated by Jeff and Kath Garlick, who said: “The nurses are dedicated professional people and we are proud to know them.”
There are 24 nurses on the team and they make regular house calls as well as visiting people in their homes. They care for a range of patients, from those who have just come out of hospital to people who are terminally ill.
Sister Michelle Hopkinson said: “It is absolutely lovely to be nominated for this. We are just doing our job so it is so nice when someone takes the time to do something like this. It has put big smiles on all our faces.
“Our job is very varied and at times, very upsetting and stressful but it is also very rewarding.
“We are all great friends on the team and we really enjoy our work. It is a vocation, not a job.”
