THE group which organises Oldham Carnival and Rootz Festival deserves a Pride in Oldham award for helping to bring the community together.
That’s the view of Chronicle reader Paul Yarwood, who has recommended the carnival’s management group for an accolade.
Mr Yarwood said: “The management group work tirelessly all year to organise this event. It helps bring people together and bridge the gaps between different communities. The carnival is a friendly event for everyone to enjoy.
“I feel the management group deserves thanks for all this hard work done by volunteers.”
Speaking on behalf of the management group, Mushtakim Hussein (20) said: “We are honoured to be nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.
“The carnival group has worked really hard over the past 10 years, developing the event into its current format.
“The group has people from a wide variety of backgrounds and this diversity represents Oldham today.”
