A TEACHING assistant with a passion for the care of abandoned and unwanted cats has earned herself a Pride in Oldham nomination for her community work.
Davina Hanes (43) is an assistant manager at the Middleton-based Oldham Cats charity, where she has been a volunteer for seven years, and has received recognition for her work in helping to shelter and rehome abandoned cats and kittens in Oldham, Middleton and Rochdale.
This is as well as a full-time job as a teaching assistant at a Rochdale primary school.
She said: “I adopted my first cat, Magic, and just completely fell in love with the place. It feels so rewarding to help these cats, who had been abandoned and unwanted.”
The mother of two has continually devoted her time to the charity. She said: “The work can be time consuming with hourly and two-hourly feeds for newborn kittens, but the end result is fantastic and it really is sweet to have been nominated.”
Oldham Cats is currently celebrating its 20th year, and shows no sign of slowing down in helping abandoned cats in the area to be rescued and rehomed.
