GREEN-fingered volunteer: Dale Rees
A GREEN-FINGERED volunteer for Oldham Council and community group Friends of Stoneleigh Park has earned a Pride in Oldham nomination for regularly helping the parks department in Derker.
Dale Rees (17) spends his time out of college volunteering with a park keeper, often working a full day from 7.30am and doing horticultural work.
Dale said: “I initially just got bored with my days off, especially over the summer when I finished high school. I do every event I can for the council and spend the majority of my Thursdays and Fridays at Stoneleigh Park, which mainly involves things like gardening and weeding.”
The former Waterhead Academy pupil devotes the bulk of his spare time to volunteering and shows no sign of slowing down.
“I just want to carry on as much as I ca,” said Dale. “Once I finish college I’ll see where I am jobs-wise and just go from there. I’d just like to thank whoever it is that’s decided to nominate me. It’s a great feeling.”
