Role model shocked by award nomination

AN inspirational doctor with strong community links has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.
Dr Zuber Ahmed, lead GP at the Sun Valley practice in Glodwick, has been put forward for his work with diverse communities, for mentoring young business people and his involvement in the Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group.
He was nominated by Mohammed Alyas, chief officer of the Pakistani Community Centre, who says Dr Ahmed is a true Oldhamer and role model who after gaining professional success stayed in his home town and became involved in local community activities.
“There is no one like him that I know of,” said Mr Alyas. “He has always been there for me and the centre and he has helped me develop many excellent projects over the years.”
Dr Ahmed qualified as a doctor in 1989 and is an executive member of Oldham CCG. The father-of-two said: “I’m flabbergasted that I’ve been nominated. I’ve been involved in the borough’s healthcare for many years now. I’m shocked but honoured by this nomination.”
