An Oldham charity supporting women with endometriosis has received a £500 donation through a national scheme run by a testing laboratory company.
Endometriosis Awareness North was selected after a solicitor from Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers nominated the charity through AlphaBiolabs’ Giving Back initiative.
The donation was awarded after Alex Swindells was randomly selected in AlphaBiolabs’ latest Giving Back draw.
The initiative enters family law and social work professionals into a draw each time they submit testing instructions, with winners choosing a charity to receive a donation.
Endometriosis Awareness North was founded by Oldham GP Dr Anita Sharma and works to raise awareness of the condition, reduce delays in diagnosis and provide support for people living with endometriosis.
Alex said, “Endometriosis affects so many women, often for many years before they receive a diagnosis. The work that Endometriosis Awareness North is doing to change that is invaluable.”
He added, “It’s a cause we’re actively supporting at Pearson Solicitors, and I’m delighted to provide a further contribution via AlphaBiolabs’ Giving Back initiative.”
Dr Sharma welcomed the funding and highlighted the challenges faced by many women seeking diagnosis and treatment.
She said, “We are grateful to Alex and AlphaBiolabs for thinking of us. Endometriosis affects one in 10 women, yet it still takes an average of 10 years to diagnose, years of pain, being dismissed, and of suffering in silence.”
She added, “Donations like this help us continue standing up for those women and pushing for the change they deserve.”
AlphaBiolabs director Rachel Davenport said the organisation was pleased to support the charity’s work across the North.
Endometriosis Awareness North campaigns for better menstrual health education, increased awareness and earlier intervention for women living with the condition.
