Singer-songwriter Kieran inspires respected Saddleworth artist

Date published: 20 November 2025

Local songwriter Kieran McMahon has caught the eye of well-respected Saddleworth artist Mark Whyatt with his debut album release.

Kieran, who goes under the stage name ‘Glen Millstone’, released his debut album ‘A Few Tales so Far’ in July this year to a great response.

Tracks from the album have been played on radio stations all across the globe, including the iconic music station KEXP in Seattle.

The songs also caught the eye of a fellow Oldham creative, Mark Whyatt.

Upon hearing the title track ‘I’ve a Way’ professional artist and designer, Mark was inspired to create a piece of artwork based on the school scene depicted in the track.

Following this the two creatives have collaborated more closely.

It turns out both Millstone and Whyatt shared a similar experience when speaking with the school careers adviser when looking to apply for further education at the end of secondary school, just like the story in Kieran’s song.

Although decades apart, both students were discouraged to pursue artistic careers and encouraged to “play it safe” and “stick to the recommendations on the list provided”.

Needless to say, both ignored the advice.

Mark and his partner Rebecca and business partner Janis run Saddleworth Picture Framing and Millyard Art Gallery.

This is where they have created the modest yet beautiful art exhibit that has  been turning heads all week.

Millyard art gallery is situated above Garratt’s wine merchant in Uppermill high street and visitors are welcome during the shops standard opening hours - these can be found on their website.

A limited run of physical press CD’s are available, which are bundled with a signed print of Marks artwork and sticker.

The exhibition will run until the end of 2025.

Kieran is also hosting the brand new Open Mic night to be held at the Egyptian Room in the Old Town Hall on Yorkshire Street in Oldham town centre on Tuesday, November 25 at 7.30pm.
