Latics beaten by promotion rivals Forest Green

Charlie McCann scored the only goal as Latics were beaten 1-0 by National League promotion rivals at The New Lawn.

Rovers broke the deadlock in added time at the end of the first half.

Joe Quigley found McCann, who cut inside before firing his shot into the bottom corner for his second goal in as many games.

Rovers went close to a second in the 58th minute when McCann's effort from a corner was just wide, before Latics goalkeeper Mathew Hudson saved from Kyle McAllister and Jordan Garrick.

Latics boss Micky Mellon said: "The players that you need to do well - the main people for us, if you like, in terms of creating those chances or winning battles in certain areas - they need to stand up and be counted and maybe enough didn't do that."

Latics, who are now fifth in the table, play their last game of the regular season on Bank Holiday Monday, May 5, when they host Ebbsfleet.

They will then contest the play-offs as they bid to join Barnet in being promoted back to the Football League.
