Saints fan 'proud' to wear Roughyeds NHS tee shirt

Date published: 16 July 2020

The special t-shirt which Oldham Rugby League Club had made in recognition of the wonderful and courageous work of the NHS throughout the Covid-19 pandemic continues to receive rave notices from far and wide.

The latest message of goodwill comes from St Helens fan Jackie Burke, herself an NHS nurse, who messaged Roughyeds chairman Chris Hamilton with these words:

"I've just received my shirt and I'm absolutely overjoyed with it. I can't wait to go to work in it before I change into my uniform.

"You're all doing a brilliant job. Keep up the good work and continue to stay safe.

"I'm a St Helens RLFC fan but I'm proud to wear this shirt and I'm proud to say that Rugby League is a united family in the sporting world. What other sport can say that ?"

The Oldham chairman replied like this: "I'm really pleased you like it. I think they look great.

"Thank-you for taking the time to message me too --your kind comments are really appreciated.

"If you wish to send me a picture of yourself wearing the shirt, we'll get it on our website and on our social media platforms with a few others.

"Take care and thanks for the work you do."

The club sold 118 NHS shirts in little more than a week.  Many of them have gone all over the country by post, with lots more currently being collected during set times from the club's office inside the Vestacare Stadium.

Many have already been collected and the others can be picked up between 10am and noon today (Thurs) and between 3pm and 4pm tomorrow (Friday).

Half the profits from the sale of the shirts will go to NHS charities.
