Gardeners’ delight as winners get their prizes

WINNING gardeners were rewarded for their creations at a awards ceremony.

Six residents who designed glorious gardens and displays in this year’s Saddleworth in Bloom competition were invited to Uppermill Civic Hall.

They were awarded a glass trophy and certificate for their hard work and creative vision in the garden.

Edward Butterworth, from Greenfield, took top spot in the small garden category, while Irene Chorlton, from Dobcross, came first in the medium garden category, and Harry and Val Pinkerton, from Greenfield, won the large garden prize.

Richard Dawes, from Springhead, won the small front terrace garden, Sheila Cronley, from Greenfield, won the best community garden category, and The Old Bell Inn, in Delph, was crowned best blooming pub.

Saddleworth Parish councillor Pat Lord, chairman of the special projects sub-committee which runs Saddleworth in Bloom, said: “They were definitely worthy winners this year and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

“We had some new entrants and we are hoping even more people join us for next year’s competition.

“We are also looking into the possibility of running a Saddleworth in Bloom competition in the spring as well as summer next year.”
