Firm loses elderly couple’s £1,000 order
ELDERLY couple Fred (74) and Sheila (71) Maguir have been forced to sleep on their sofa — after dozy workers at a bed warehouse made three king-sized errors on their order.

The couple have been left in the lurch after Dreams, at Elk Mill, Royton, lost the £1,000 electric bed they ordered in early December - before messing them around twice more.

They now fear they could be without a bed for another month.

Fred and Sheila, from Greenfield, ordered the bed because Fred suffers from arthritis, and they hoped the new bed would help to alleviate his condition.

Dreams promised to call to give warning of the delivery as the Maguires needed time to dismantle their existing bed.

But when delivery men arrived on January 13 without calling beforehand and saw the old bed was still in place, they refused to help and left.

Fred had been taken to hospital because of his condition and his family wanted the new bed for his return.

Their son Wayne contacted Dreams’ head office to rearrange delivery - only to find the expensive bed had been lost. The company offered £200 in compensation for the inconvenience.

A new bed was ordered and a delivery date of February 6 arranged, so Wayne set about dismantling the bed. Sheila took refuge on the sofa while her husband was in hospital.

Again the bed failed to arrive.

They have now been told the earliest they will get the bed they ordered over two months ago is the beginning of March.

Wayne said: “Dad’s due home any day now and he’s going to find he hasn’t anywhere to sleep. There is no consistency and no communication with Dreams. Every time I’ve phoned I’ve had to speak to someone different, and everyone seems unable or unwilling to pull out the stops for these elderly people.”

The Chronicle made numerous attempts to contact Dreams, but the firm declined to comment.
