Confusion over parking limits

Members of Saddleworth Parish Council have torn into Oldham Council’s lack of enforcement of the three-hour stay limit at the village’s museum car park.
It follows a Freedom of Information request submitted by Councillor Mike Buckley that revealed not a single driver had been issued a ticket for parking over the time limit since the new year.
Yet it revealed the number of drivers being fined for parking outside or over the marked bays had steadily increased.
Councillor Buckley demanded to know why, when the parish council had fought for the restrictions in the first place, they weren’t being enforced.
Oldham Council maintains the restrictions are in place — creating confusion in the village.
Councillor Buckley said: “I don’t think it is acceptable to claim parking restrictions are in place. We should condemn very strongly the way we feel we have been ignored.”
Councillor Royce Franklin warned drivers they could be caught out if Oldham Council suddenly started enforcing the three-hour rule.
