Vintage look for jubilee
Date published: 24 April 2012
JUBILEE celebrations in Saddleworth are set to go with a swing with a vintage festival.
Central to the bank holiday weekend celebrations in June will be a 1950s themed vintage and handmade fair, showcasing the best in local vintage-influenced designers, makers and manufacturers.
The event has been put together by local jewellery designer Samantha Mills, along with make-up artist Lisa Gee and photographer Jude Gidney.
Lisa said: “The fair and the festival are about marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, but more importantly they are about celebrating the wealth of creative talent we have in the region.
“We hope to build up a network of local creative and vintage businesses so that we can all support each other. If the fair and the festival are a success we will look at making it an annual event.”
The fair, at Uppermill Civic Hall on June 3, is being promoted as an official event of Craft and Design Month and is backed by Oldham Council.
A website has been set up to promote the event at www.saddleworthvintage.co.uk.
