Award-winning explorer’s guide to adventure

INTREPID explorer Tony Howard has written two more adventure books — and scooped an award for a previous offering.
The 72 year old with a head for heights has spent a lifetime in the mountains and wilderness.
Having already explored desert mountains and written guidebooks on treks, he embarked on a seven-week trip to north Jordan.
The result is his new book — “Walks, Treks, Climbs and Caves in Al Ayoun”
Tony, from Greenfield, said: “The people there are so friendly and they’re trying to promote their home stays and working as drivers to encourage people to visit the area.
“We thought it was a great project. This time we’ve added more routes for people to climb so hopefully people will be encouraged to go.”
His second book, “Adventures in the Northlands”, covers Arctic Canada, Greenland, Iceland and his home-from-home, Norway.
Tony has received an award for “Troll Wall”, published last year. He claimed the jury’s special award for Norwegian Mountain Literature for his description of his team’s climb of Europe’s 4,000ft tallest rockface, Trollryggen, without modern equipment.
