A £2million care home investment has created 12 full and part-time jobs on the outskirts of Delph.
Stoneswood Retirement Living, wholly owned by Northern Care Homes, is the future of community care for the elderly says Christine Tilley — a director of the business which has been caring for the people of Oldham since 1996.
Phase Three of an ambitious development project will soon be underway in the 4.8 acres of landscaped grounds off Huddersfield Road.
Mrs Tilley and manager Val Campbell have developed what they describe as “seamless” care for the elderly and believe their model is a blueprint for the industry.
Mrs Tilley said: “We have a traditional care home which we have extended to accommodate 41 residents. We can also offer assisted living places in the extension, which sits alongside our original building. We also have independent living units.
Mrs Campbell said: “Many people want to live independently but have the security of support near by. All the units have alarms directly connected to the main care home and support can be on hand within minutes.
“When a couple have been together for a long time they want to remain close when one of them needs more support. At Stoneswood one partner can remain independent but be literally a few minutes walk from their partner in another part of the site.”
Plans are well advanced for other units to complement the five new apartments in the extension and four refurbished properties in the grounds.
All of the assisted places and units in the extension have been allocated or sold and only two of the refurbished units — which have been renovated to accommodate adaptations and wheelchair users — remain on the market.
