Cricket day raises £10,300

SADDLEWORTH Cricket Club members helped to raise a whopping £10,300 for the Heaton family, who lost their two-year-old son, Jamie, in the Shaw blast.


They took on a collective XI from the Central Lancashire League, who put on a score of 136. Saddleworth CC got the runs with four overs to spare at Royton Cricket Club.


BOARSHURST Band Club welcome Blackley Band for their weekly concert this Sunday. Doors open at 7pm, with the concert starting at 8pm. Admission costs £3. For details of all upcoming concerts at Boarshurst Band Club visit www.boarshurstband.co.uk.


AN Olympics holiday camp is being held at Saddleworth School. Racquet sports, fencing, football, athletics and rugby league are available at the daily sessions running until Friday, August 24 between 10am and 3pm. Prices for the days start at £3. GENEROUS donations from Saddleworth Rotary Club and other local businesses promise to make this year’s Denshaw Flower Show better than ever. The popular event, with classes on flowers, vegetables and home baking, will be held on Saturday, August 18 at Denshaw Village Hall. Entry is 40p, or three for £1.


GO vintage this weekend as Saddleworth Vintage Crafts make an appearance at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. Selling a range of unique jewellery, Saddleworth Vintage hope to showcase how iconic objects and methods within textile history can make different objects for fashion.


A POSTMAN from Saddleworth has won a national blogging award. Mike Smith created “Six Tame Sides”, a football blog covering six non-league football teams east of Manchester, and won the “Best Veteran Football Blog” at the Football Blogging Awards.
