JUDGES were blown over by a fabulous array of colourful gardens as this year’s Saddleworth in Bloom winners were announced.
Although there were fewer entries than normal, competition was still fierce, and Saddleworth Parish Council chairman, Councillor Brian Lord, Councillor Pat Lord and other parish councillors accompanied by local gardening expert Frank Ashton, were able to visit the gardens and select their winners.
The competition looked set to be a wash-out this year due to the atrocious weather, but with time running out the sun burst from behind the clouds just long enough to ensure bright blooms from this year’s entries.
Councillor Brian Lord said: “I was amazed at the quality of so many of the gardens who had managed to defy the very wet and miserable spring. Their gardens were a credit to their skill and tenacity in such difficult circumstances.”
