800 years of worship

A BOOK about St Chad’s parish church in Uppermill will be published in 2015 to mark its 800th anniversary.

Around 30 volunteers have signed up to scour the internet, archives and libraries for information about the building. The group welcomes anyone interested in helping put the book together. Contact Lily Hopkinson on 01457-873 745.


Budding seven to 15-year-old actors, singers and dancers are invited to a week-long theatre club which aims to put on a show in seven days.

The youngsters can meet at Kilngreen Church Hall, Lee Side, Diggle, from Monday to take part in workshops (10am-3pm). Following the sessions, a public performance will be on offer on Saturday, August 18. The week costs £25. Call 01457-874 787 or email youngstarstheatre@hotmail.co.uk to secure a place.


GET down and dirty with a litter pick on Saturday, August 18. Spruce up Saddleworth starting at 10am outside Boarshurst Band Club in Greenfield. Refreshments will be provided. All welcome but under-13s must be accompanied by an adult. Contact Liz Rooke on 01457-810 666 for more information.


SWING into the weekend with a 1940s-style outdoor music event at The Old Bell Inn, Delph, on Saturday and Sunday, as part of the Yanks weekend celebrations. DJ Katz-Korner will provide a musical backdrop to performers such as the Jumpin’ Jitterbugs. There will also be food, drink, military vehicles and local brass bands.


INSTALLATION of new lighting and upgrading of electrical systems at St Thomas’ Church, Broad Lane, Delph, could be on the cards, after Saddleworth Parish Council agreed to recommend approving the planning application to Oldham Council.
