Challenge concert

FOUR students looking to raise money to be part of a “Challenge Expedition” to Namibia in 2013 are holding a concert to drum up funds.
The Divertenti Quartet will perform at St Chad’s Church, Church Road, Uppermill, on Saturday, September 8, starting at 7.30pm. For tickets, contact Sarah on 01457-875 126.
REMEMBER the old days of Saddleworth at a photo gallery. “Gone But Not Forgotten” will be presented by Peter Fox on Thursday, who will spend the afternoon discussing old photographs with the unique theme that each picture will show an aspect of Saddleworth that is now gone. Held at Saddleworth Museum from 1.45pm. Admission £1.
PUT towards the Saddleworth Parish Council chairman’s charities and rejuvenate your wardrobe at the same time by attending a jumble sale at Uppermill Civic Hall on Wednesday from 6pm. Admission 50p.
ENJOY a tour of Castleshaw Roman Forts on Saturday, September 8, with the Saddleworth Historical Society, as part of the South Pennines Walk and Ride Festival. Jim Carr will conduct the walk with other society members guiding along the way. Call Jan Robinson on 07582-101 384.
“SISTER Big Stuff”, an eight-piece band, are holding a Motown, soul and funk night to raise cash for Christie on Friday, September 7. Held at Uppermill Civic Hall from 7.30pm, tickets are £10 and available from Uppermill or Greenfield post offices.
Saddleworth Parish Council’s planning committee will hear recommendations including the redecoration of The Swan Inn and improvements to the car park at Castleshaw Valley from 7.30pm on Monday at Uppermill Civic Hall.
