Phone scam

POLICE have warned residents to be aware of a telephone scam after locals reported a foreign-sounding man, claiming to be a United Utilities agent offering to return overpaid money in exchange for bank account details.
UPPERMILL residents were reassured that gunshot sounds coming from Ladcastle Quarry over the weekend were fireworks. Police were called after calls from concerned residents but found two empty boxes of fireworks.
Eddy Brimson is the headline stand-up comic at the Off The Rails Club, Royal George, Manchester Road, Greenfield. Admission to the show, which starts at 8pm on Sunday, September 30, is £8 or £5 with a student NUS card.
LYDGATE Band is holding a flea market in aid of band funds at the civic hall in Uppermill on Sunday between 10am and 4pm. Admission is 50p for adults and 30p for concessions.
ST Chads Church has set up a donations fund in the hope of investing in new hymn books. The congregation is urged to donate in memory of a lost loved one or to commemorate a special occasion. MOSSLEY Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society won the J Lees Jones drama shield for the best overall production for the second year running at the Greater Manchester Drama Federation Awards Night, for their production of “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice”. Their next show is “Up Pompeii” at the George Lawton Hall from Tuesday-Saturday, September 18-22.
THE 91 Club of Saddleworth will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, September 19, at the White Hart, Lydgate, when David Mitchell will present “Encounters of a Quirky Kind”.
