Shining lights

GREENFIELD Street Scene teamed up with Tesco and held a raffle to raise funds to cover the cost of replacing the village Christmas tree lights, which were stolen last New Year’s Eve.



The raffle brought in £571.79, and the winner received a hamper of goodies.



SADDLEWORTH South councillor John McCann has written to Oldham Council leader Jim McMahon asking that new roads in the borough be named after those who have died in service to their country, in the wake of the killings of PCs Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone, and Middleton soldier Lee Rigby.



THERE are two weeks full of fun in store at Saddleworth School, as it host a range of sports camps. Until Friday, August 23, from 10am to noon, there will be athletics on Mondays, cricket on Tuesdays, tag rugby on Wednesdays, tennis on Thursdays and netball and basketball on Fridays.



POLICE reports from Saddleworth North show that during July, there were two burglaries of homes, three burglaries of other dwellings, four thefts from vehicles, one theft of a vehicle and three reports of criminal damage. No robberies took place.



A MAN seen loitering around a home which was broken into in Saddleworth was recalled to prison, after local residents recognised him. He had previously been seen near to the scene of the burglary when it took place earlier in July. The man is a known offender.



THE winning entry of the Delph Donkey Scarecrow Trail was a straw model of Captain Jack Sparrow from the film “Pirates of the Caribbean”, at the Old Bell Inn, securing the pub victory for the second year in a row. £400 was raised which will be put towards Delph Library and village improvements
