Painting party

MEMBERS and friends of Dobcross Band Social Club Committee are throwing a painting party on Sunday, September 8, to spruce up their premises.



The action starts at 10am and volunteers are asked to take any available rollers, paint brushes, dust sheets and step ladders. Refreshments will be available.



OLDHAM Writing Cafe has its new home at Lees Library, and meets on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Meetings on the first Saturday of the month include a workshop. September’s is on “life writing” led by Carol Talbot, author of a book on the life of Mary Higgs, a pioneer in many areas of Oldham social life in the early 20th century.



HELP the team at Saddleworth Museum understand what subjects interest people. Call in today or tomorrow from 10am-4pm as they plan to use Heritage Lottery funding to create a more interactive and exciting museum to tell the story of Saddleworth’s people and landscape. There will be costumes to try on, objects to discover, photographs to browse and historical characters to meet. Free refreshments and home-made cakes for all participants.



MEET local police to voice your concerns on Wednesday at New Bank Garden Centre, Dobcross, from 10am to 11am.



KEEP an eye out for your neighbours with Home Watch which meets on Wednesday at Lees Library, Thomas Street, from 7.30 to 8.30pm.



EIGHT to 16-year-olds can finish off the summer holidays with some football fun at Saddleworth Pool and Leisure Centre, Station Road, Uppermill, every day until September 2. Admission is £1.50, details from Oldham Community Leisure on 0161-207 7000.
