University chance

THE Saddleworth Palestine Women’s Scholarship Fund held another successful brunch and fundraising event on Sunday.

The brunch, held in Uppermill, raised more than £1,000 for women’s education. As part of the event Kathy Brooks gave a presentation reflecting on her recent fact-finding trip to Palestine.

Michele Abendstern from the group said: “It costs under £400 a year for a university place but this is beyond the means of many women in Palestine.

“The scholarship fund raises money to help women who cannot afford this amount pay their university fees.”
