THE Churches Together in Saddleworth service will be held on Sunday at the Civic Hall, Uppermill (11am).

ST MARY’S Church, Greenfield, raised £1,574 with its Christmas fair. Organisers thanked everyone who helped to make it a success.


CELEBRATE Burns night at Dobcross Band Club on Saturday, January 25, with a Scottish piper, the Houghton Weavers, and a traditional haggis supper, while dancing the night away to Big Jim’s disco. Tickets, priced £15, available from from the band club, the Swan pub or from Mike Mooney on 07885-187 137.


CAROL Shawforth-Smith will give a “cheap and cheerful cookery demonstration” for St Mary’s Church, Greenfield, ladies luncheon club, at Boarshurst Band Club, on Thursday. Arrive at 11.30am for lunch at noon. The club also raised £220 for the charity Forever Angels.


DOBCROSS Band and Social Club hosts Milnrow Band in concert on Sunday, January 26. Entrance is £5 and accompanied children are free. Call 01457-873 741.


CELEBRATE a “late, late Burns’ Night” with Dobcross Band and social club on Saturday, February 1. Sample seven malt whiskies with commentary, tasting guides and supper — wine available for non-whisky folk. In aid of the charities Child Flight and the Parkinson’s Disease Association. Admission by ticket only, from Dobcross Band and Social Club.


NEIL Barrow talks on “From hillside hamlets to suburbia” for Saddleworth Historical Society on Monday, January 27, at 7.30pm in the Bernard Barnes memorial lecture at Springhead Congregational Church Hall.
