SHARE rhymes, songs, stories and music to develop language and communication, and foster a love of books in babies and young children, at free weekly sessions held at Delph Library on Thursdays, 2.15-3pm.


There are also sessions at Greenfield Library, on Tuesdays, 2.15–3pm; Lees Library, on Thursdays, 9.30– 10.30am, and Uppermill Library, on Wednesdays 2-3pm. There is no need to book.


A four-week pre-Lent course looking at the aspects of the Jesus story that people find difficult, starts at Saddleworth St Chad’s vicarage, Station Road, Uppermill, on Monday, 7.30-9pm, and Tuesday, 2-3pm. The spotlight will be on the virgin birth, resurrection, ascension and more. No need to book, just turn up on the day.


JOIN Saddleworth Peace Group in a silent vigil on Sunday, from noon to 1pm in The Square, Uppermill, to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Speakers include MP Debbie Abrahams and a Saddleworth School pupil. People are invited to stay the whole hour or just a few minutes to show their respect. Refreshments are available afterwards at the Methodist Church.


DOBCROSS Band and Social Club is hosting a late late Burns night on Saturday, February 1. Sample seven malt whiskys with commentary, tasting guides and supper — with wine for the non-whiskey folk. In aid of the charity’s Child Flight and the Parkinson’s Disease Association. Admission by ticket only, availablefrom Dobcross Band and Social Club.


CONGREGATIONS from churches across Saddleworth will join together on Sunday, February 2, for a Candlemas Service at St Anne’s Church, Lydgate. It starts at 6.30pm and all are welcome.
