COUNCIL Leader Jean Stretton with Tooth Place owner Dr Amjad Chaudhary
A DENTAL practice which has moved into a former pub in Oldham town centre was officially opened by the leader of Oldham Council.
Councillor Jean Stretton visited the The Tooth Place on Yorkshire Street, which has been opened at the former Old Mess House pub. The building has been refurbished and extended, with extra space at the rear and a disabled access lift.
The project has been overseen by practice owner Amjad Chaudhary, who bought The Tooth Place 13 years ago Manchester-born Mr Chaudhary trained at Sheffield Dental School before working in hospitals and then as a dentist in Rochdale before buying the practice in 2004.
The architects behind the design and refurbishment of the building was NK Architects. Spokesman Nadir Khan said the original building had fallen into disrepair and had to be completely gutted inside. New floors, roofing and an internal wall have been added. Externally, the original façade has been retained with some new contemporary elements, such as aluminium windows. Contractor R & S Builders carried out the construction work.
